Overlooked by Trump’s shocking electoral victory on Tuesday were state ballot measures that increased minimum wages and broadened the availability of paid sick leave. These ballot initiatives succeeded in the states of Washington, Arizona, Colorado, and Maine, with Arizona and Washington also passing measures to expand paid sick leave. Additionally, South Dakota voted against reducing the minimum wage from $8.50 to $7.50 for youth under 18 years old.
